“You don't want to hear this, but..” You ever hear that expression? “You don't want to hear this, but you're not getting a pony for Christmas. You don't want to hear this, but Tommy, that boy you like, isn't going to ask you out. You don't want to hear this, but you have cancer and you have 3 weeks to live. ” The truth hurts sometimes, but if we care about the individual, it is necessary to tell them the truth. They need to hear it. Jesus had one sermon to preach to his hometown, and what did He preach? The truth. He preached that He was the promised Messiah. The message of Jesus IS Jesus. His message opened our eyes to our sin and opened our eyes to Him as the only Savior from sin. Today we see the reaction of that message. It is a source of comfort because it draws our attention, not to our problem, but to Jesus, the friend who stands ready to help. Jesus answers our prayers, but not always for the reason we'd expect. He answers our prayers not always in the way we would expect. This is a Biblical truth we see when we read about Jesus and a wedding in Cana. Let us go to the wedding, where our Jesus answers Mary's prayer, but not for the reason we'd expect, and not in the way that we'd expect either. |
